Commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder prices have been increased by Rs 195.50, effective Wednesday, mirroring a sharp escalation in global crude oil rates. The surge in international oil prices is largely attributed to ongoing conflict in West Asia, impacting energy supply chains.
The Chenab Times has learned that following this revision, the cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi now stands at Rs 2,078.50. This follows a previous hike of Rs 114.50 per cylinder on March 1, indicating a consistent upward trend in commercial fuel pricing.
In contrast, domestic LPG prices have remained unchanged. The 14.2-kg household cooking gas cylinder continues to be sold at Rs 913 in Delhi. The last adjustment to domestic rates was implemented on March 7, which saw an increase of Rs 60 per cylinder.
Officials from major state-run oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum, explained that LPG prices are subject to monthly revisions. These adjustments are based on international fuel benchmarks and prevailing foreign exchange rates.
The recent escalation in global oil prices, reportedly nearing a 50 percent increase, has been directly linked to anticipated or actual disruptions in energy supplies due to heightened tensions in West Asia. This geopolitical factor has placed particular pressure on commercial LPG, a vital fuel source for a wide array of businesses such as hotels, restaurants, and smaller enterprises.
Meanwhile, prices for petrol and diesel have seen no change and have remained stable since March of the previous year. A reduction of Rs 2 per litre was announced for these fuels at that time. Currently, petrol is priced at Rs 94.72 per litre and diesel at Rs 87.62 per litre in the national capital.
The latest increase in commercial LPG costs is anticipated to elevate the operational expenditures for businesses heavily reliant on this fuel. Conversely, domestic consumers are presently insulated from any immediate impact on their household cooking gas expenses, as prices for this segment remain static.
