Jammu and Kashmir Government Reports 639 Industrial Units Established in Two Financial Years

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced the establishment of 639 industrial units across the Union Territory over the past two financial years, officials confirmed. This development signifies a notable increase in industrial activity and investment within the region.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the Industries and Commerce Department informed the Legislative Assembly that 234 industrial units were commissioned in the financial year 2023-24, followed by 405 units in the 2024-25 period. The combined figure of 639 units highlights a growing trend in industrial infrastructure development.

The government further detailed that the cumulative investment channeled into these newly established units amounts to Rs 7,534.96 crore. This substantial investment has, in turn, generated significant employment opportunities, with an estimated 41,365 individuals expected to find work through these ventures. The economic impact is considered a key indicator of the successful implementation of industrial policies.

Following the notification of the Jammu and Kashmir Industrial Policy 2021-30, the administration has facilitated the transfer of land for the establishment of new industrial enterprises in various districts of the Jammu division. Kathua district has recorded the highest allocation of land, with 5,532 kanal and 7 marla being transferred for industrial purposes. Samba district follows with 1,482 kanal, while Jammu received 277 kanal, Reasi 500 kanal and 13 marla, Poonch 208 kanal, and Kishtwar 40 kanal.

Since the inception of the current Industrial Policy, the Jammu division alone has seen the establishment of 758 industrial units. This figure surpasses the total reported for the entire Union Territory in the last two financial years, indicating a concentrated effort and success in promoting industrial growth within this specific region. The policy aims to foster a conducive environment for businesses to thrive and expand.

A district-wise breakdown for Jammu division reveals Kathua as the leading district with 233 industrial units established, accompanied by the allotment of 4,830 kanal of land. Samba district has established 117 units on 775 kanal of land. Udhampur has seen the development of 17 units on 36 kanal. Districts such as Jammu and Reasi have each established one unit, with land allocations of 24 kanal and 1 kanal, respectively. These figures underscore the varied pace of industrialization across different districts within the division.
