Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir – National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah has voiced significant concern over the ongoing delay in reinstating full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the continued postponement of this constitutional right is unjust and risks undermining public trust in democratic institutions.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, Abdullah expressed these views during a meeting with party functionaries at his residence in Srinagar on Sunday. He characterized the prolonged delay as deeply unfortunate, emphasizing that the restoration of statehood, a commitment long made by the Government of India, is not a favour but a fundamental right of the people.
The NC leader articulated that the withholding of full statehood has left the aspirations of the populace increasingly unfulfilled. He contended that such protracted delays foster a growing sense of disenchantment and highlight the urgent necessity for responsive and credible governance mechanisms that address the concerns of the citizens.
Abdullah urged the National Conference workers and office bearers to maintain their engagement with the public. He stressed the importance of actively listening to citizens’ concerns and consistently advocating for the restoration of dignity, democratic rights, and political empowerment for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The party’s stance reiterates its commitment to the constitutional status of the region and its people’s right to self-governance.
