SRINAGAR: The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar has witnessed a significant influx of visitors, attracting nearly 1.78 lakh people within the first 15 days of its opening for the spring season. Officials anticipate the final visitor count will be substantially higher once data from online ticket sales is incorporated.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the current figures, standing at 1,77,869 visitors, are based solely on offline ticket sales. The comprehensive tally, including online bookings, will be compiled and released after the garden concludes its operational period for the year.

Imran Ahmad, the Assistant Floriculture Officer in charge of the Tulip Garden Srinagar, stated that the recorded footfall represents a healthy start to the season. He confirmed that the visitor numbers comprise a mix of local residents, domestic tourists from various parts of India, and international travellers. However, a specific breakdown of these visitor demographics was not immediately available.

The garden, renowned as Asia’s largest Tulip Garden, is strategically located at the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range, offering panoramic views of the Dal Lake. This year’s display features an estimated 70 to 75 distinct varieties of tulips, making it a pivotal attraction in Jammu and Kashmir’s popular spring tourism calendar. Officials are observing a consistent increase in visitor numbers and predict a further surge as the tulip blooms reach their peak vibrancy in the coming days.

The bloom season in Kashmir is a crucial period for the region’s tourism economy, drawing considerable attention from both domestic and international visitors. The Tulip Garden, established to promote tourism and showcase horticultural diversity, has become a signature attraction, contributing significantly to the local economy. Its expansive lawns, carpeted with a dazzling array of tulips, offer a picturesque setting that has gained international acclaim. The Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department often highlights the garden as a primary draw for spring travel, employing various promotional strategies to attract visitors from across the globe. The successful commencement of the season, as indicated by the initial visitor numbers, signals a positive outlook for the region’s tourism sector this year.
