Srinagar, April 01: The Special Crime Wing of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar has filed a chargesheet in a significant overseas job scam. The action follows an investigation into a complaint by an individual who was defrauded after seeking employment abroad following job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the chargesheet was filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Srinagar against an accused identified as Farhat Abbas Malik, son of Din Mohammad Malik, a resident of Tendala, Tehsil Chilipingal, District Doda. The case, registered under FIR No. 02/2025, includes charges under Sections 420 (cheating) and 201 (disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code.
The investigation was initiated after a complainant approached the Crime Branch, detailing how he was contacted by an entity named “Fly High Business Consultant.” The accused allegedly promised a well-paying job overseas and, in pursuit of this promise, convinced the complainant to submit a substantial sum of money and his original documents.
During the course of the investigation, it was established that the accused had made false promises of overseas employment and failed to arrange the job or return the money paid by the complainant. Evidence gathered indicated that the accused had deliberately misled the victim for personal financial gain.
Under questioning, the accused reportedly admitted to receiving money from the complainant with the commitment to secure foreign employment but ultimately failed to honour this undertaking. He also disclosed that the complainant’s original passport, a critical document, had been lost. This led to the addition of Section 201 IPC to the charges, pertaining to the destruction or concealment of evidence.
The accused was apprehended during the investigation. His application for bail was subsequently rejected by the court, and he is currently remanded to judicial custody at Central Jail Srinagar. The chargesheet has now been presented to the competent court for further judicial proceedings and determination.
