SRINAGAR: Professor Nazir Ahmad Ganai, the Vice Chancellor of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), has been selected for the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Award for the 2025-26 academic year.

The award acknowledges outstanding leadership in academic administration and dedicated efforts towards the internationalisation of higher education institutions.

Understanding the Fulbright-Nehru Program

The Fulbright-Nehru Program stands as a cornerstone initiative for international educational exchange, sponsored by the Government of the United States. Its primary objective is to cultivate mutual understanding and establish enduring academic ties between India and the United States. The International Education Administrators component of the program is specifically tailored for senior university administrators, providing them with opportunities to explore global best practices through a series of structured seminars, institutional visits, and direct interactions with leading American universities and relevant government agencies.

Prof Ganai’s Contributions to SKUAST-K

During his tenure as Vice Chancellor, Prof Ganai has been instrumental in enhancing the academic and institutional standing of SKUAST-K. His leadership has contributed to the university achieving recognition as the third-best State Agricultural University in India. Under his guidance, SKUAST-K has actively expanded its international collaborations. These initiatives include the development of dual-degree programs and strategic partnerships with renowned international institutions such as the University of Guelph in Canada, Western Sydney University, and Murdoch University in Australia.

Innovations in Academic Programs

SKUAST-K has also been proactive in introducing new academic programs that are closely aligned with emerging technological advancements. Notably, the university has launched Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) courses in critical areas such as Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture, Economics, and Data Sciences. These programs are designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate and contribute to the rapidly evolving fields of Agri 4.0 and the digital bio-economy, ensuring the institution remains at the forefront of agricultural education and research.

Expressing his thoughts on the selection, Prof Ganai stated that he felt deeply honoured. He described the award as a significant recognition of SKUAST-K’s expanding global academic presence.
