In a significant operation targeting drug trafficking, the Delhi Police’s Central District team has successfully dismantled an interstate narcotics syndicate with operations spanning Delhi and Bihar. The breakthrough came following a sustained, intelligence-led investigation that culminated in the arrest of the alleged kingpin.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the operation was triggered by the arrest of a local drug consumer last month, which led authorities to investigate the broader supply chain. The police revealed that the operation exposed a meticulously organized network that extended across multiple states, connecting street-level drug users in Delhi with bulk suppliers in Bihar.
The investigation commenced on March 24 when a patrol team from the Hauz Qazi police station apprehended an individual identified as Mohd Ali for allegedly consuming smack. During his interrogation, Ali provided details about procuring the contraband from a supplier operating in the vicinity of Paharganj.
“Based on his disclosure and corroborated inputs, a dedicated team was formed to trace the source and dismantle the supply network,” a senior police official stated. This led to subsequent raids in the Todapur area on March 27, resulting in the apprehension of three individuals: Binod Kumar, Sonu Kumar Mandal, and Sanjit Kumar. Authorities recovered over 8.5 kilograms of ganja and a quantity of heroin from their possession.
Further inquiries indicated that the illicit substances were being sourced from both local operations and from the state of Bihar. Acting on these leads, law enforcement conducted another raid in Raghubir Nagar, leading to the arrest of Surrender Prasad and the recovery of an additional 10.6 grams of heroin.
“The interrogation pointed towards a larger, organised interstate supply chain where drugs were procured at Rs 5,000-6,000 per kg and sold in Delhi at nearly double the price,” the officer elaborated. This revelation prompted the dispatch of a specialized team to Madhepura in Bihar, tasked with tracing the main supplier.
On April 6, the alleged kingpin, identified as Banti Kumar, also known as Lallan Sah, aged 24, was apprehended near Baba Bishu Rawat Temple. His arrest was facilitated by technical surveillance and the gathering of local intelligence inputs. Police reported that the accused confessed to supplying substantial quantities of ganja to operatives based in Delhi and admitted to distributing drugs within his local region.
“He disclosed that the contraband was sometimes circulated under the guise of ‘prasad’ near the temple, indicating a deliberate attempt to evade suspicion,” the officer added, highlighting the deceptive tactics employed by the syndicate.
With the apprehension of Banti Kumar, the police assert that they have successfully dismantled the entire supply chain, from its origin to its street-level distribution. “This operation has effectively dismantled a well-entrenched interstate narcotics network,” the officer commented, noting that ongoing efforts are being made to identify any additional accomplices and network connections.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and the investigation is continuing.
