Jammu Police on Saturday demolished a residential property in the Javaid Nagar area of Niki Tawi, citing its alleged links to drug trafficking. The action was part of an intensified crackdown on narcotics trade under the administration’s anti-drug campaign.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the demolition was carried out using a bulldozer, an enforcement measure aimed at dismantling assets associated with individuals involved in the narcotics trade. This move is in line with the Lieutenant Governor-led administration’s objective to foster a “drug-free society.”

The broader strategy employed by the administration includes not only the demolition of properties linked to narcotics networks but also the seizure and freezing of bank accounts and the cancellation of driving licenses and Aadhaar cards of those implicated in drug-related offenses. Hundreds of police personnel were deployed to ensure law and order during the operation, with security arrangements in place to prevent any untoward incidents.

Before the demolition commenced, family members residing in the house were permitted to remove their personal belongings and household items, including appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators, as well as utensils. Officials confirmed that these arrangements were made to mitigate the impact on innocent family members.

The demolition has elicited mixed reactions from local residents. While a segment of the community expressed support for stringent actions against drug peddlers, emphasizing the need to curb the menace, others raised concerns regarding the implications for families of those accused. These residents questioned the extent to which punitive measures should affect individuals not directly involved in the illegal activities.

This development signifies an escalation in enforcement strategies against drug trafficking within Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have increasingly focused on targeting not only individuals involved in drug peddling but also the financial and material assets allegedly connected to the narcotics trade. Officials have stated that such measures are deemed necessary to deter illegal activities and disrupt the economic infrastructure that supports drug distribution networks.
