Prime Minister Urges Civil Servants to Prioritize Citizen Welfare in Governance

NEW DELHI, April 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the paramount importance of the ‘Nagrikdevo Bhava’ principle, meaning ‘the citizen is god,’ urging over one crore civil servants nationwide to place it at the core of all their decision-making processes. In letters dispatched on April 20, ahead of Civil Services Day, the Prime Minister emphasized that public service must be characterized by compassion and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Prime Minister’s letters were disseminated in 12 languages—Hindi, English, Marathi, Odia, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Punjabi, Assamese, Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil—to ensure broad accessibility across all government ministries, departments, states, and union territories.

Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the dynamic nature of the 21st century, marked by evolving challenges, emerging technologies, and continuous innovation. He stated that both citizens and the global community hold significant expectations from India. He stressed the necessity for government services and work culture to be aligned to leverage this historic era effectively. The Prime Minister highlighted the role of platforms like the iGOT Karmayogi platform in fostering a culture of lifelong learning, stating that by choosing personal improvement, civil servants contribute to making India better.

Addressing the civil servants as ‘Karmayogis,’ the Prime Minister noted that his letter was sent during a period of festive celebrations across many parts of India, coinciding with events such as Rongali Bihu, Vishu, Puthandu, Poila Boishakh, Maha Bishuba Pana Sankranti, and Baisakhi. He described these festivals as symbols of hope, renewal, and new beginnings.

“At such a time, you have become a part of a festival of learning and growing – the ‘Sadhana Saptah’,” the Prime Minister remarked, congratulating the civil servants for their participation in this initiative, which unites them across the country. He expressed his profound appreciation for their dedication and spirit of service, which facilitated their involvement in this program. He viewed this engagement as a testament to their steadfast faith, remarkable spirit, and unparalleled commitment to advancing the nation’s journey towards a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India).

Prime Minister Modi reiterated his belief in the significance of such platforms for individual growth and the enhancement of professional capabilities. He emphasized the intrinsic value of discovery and the importance of maintaining a spirit of inquiry throughout life. He connected this philosophy to the launch of Mission Karmayogi, which, beyond training and skill development, served as a reaffirmation of the government’s duty to serve citizens with utmost efficiency, guided by compassion, and for public servants to embody the ideals of continuous learning.
