In Coimbatore, a significant discrepancy concerning Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) was reportedly rectified following the intervention of V. Senthil Balaji, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate for the Coimbatore South constituency.
EVM Issue Addressed at Polling Booth
The incident occurred when V. Senthil Balaji, who is actively campaigning for the upcoming elections, visited polling booths located at Ram Nagar Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School in Coimbatore. During his visit, an issue related to EVMs was brought to his attention. While the exact nature of the discrepancy has not been detailed, Balaji’s presence and subsequent engagement led to the issue being addressed and resolved.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the intervention by the DMK candidate was crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of the electoral process at the concerned polling stations. This development underscores the high stakes involved in the current electoral landscape and the vigilance of candidates in overseeing election-related procedures.
Senthil Balaji has been a prominent figure in the political discourse of Tamil Nadu, currently serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Karur constituency and holding the position of District Secretary for the DMK in Karur. He has previously served as the Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, and Minister for Transport in the Tamil Nadu government. His political career began with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) before he joined the DMK.
Recently, Senthil Balaji was also reappointed as the minister in charge of Coimbatore district by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, a role aimed at overseeing development work and disaster relief efforts. This reappointment came after his release on bail in a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case. His involvement in overseeing district-level administration highlights his continued importance within the state government and the party structure.
The rectification of the EVM discrepancy comes amidst ongoing election campaigns across the district. Senthil Balaji has been actively engaged in canvassing for votes, addressing allegations of electoral malpractice, and outlining development plans for Coimbatore. He recently dismissed claims of cash distribution to influence votes, emphasizing his commitment to a free and fair election. Balaji expressed confidence in the DMK’s victory in the Coimbatore South constituency and across the district.
Balaji’s campaign in Coimbatore South has been met with accusations from opposition parties, including the AIADMK, which have alleged electoral malpractices. Specifically, the AIADMK candidate Amman Arjunan filed a complaint with the District Collector and District Election Officer, alleging voters were being confined and their voting rights infringed upon. Balaji has refuted these claims, urging complainants to provide evidence to the Election Officer and asserting that the DMK seeks a fair electoral process.
Furthermore, Senthil Balaji has outlined ambitious plans for Coimbatore’s development should the DMK government be formed, including significant investments in industrial development and infrastructure improvement over the next five years. He has also spoken about increasing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Coimbatore and implementing numerous projects aimed at modernizing the region.
