SRINAGAR: Residents in large parts of Ganderbal district and rural areas of Srinagar are set to experience a temporary suspension of potable drinking water supply. The disruption, scheduled from April 25 to April 27, is a direct consequence of essential repair works planned for the Sindh Power Canal.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Rural Water Supply Division Ganderbal of the Jammu and Kashmir Jal Shakti Department issued an urgent public notice detailing the planned shutdown. The Executive Engineer stated that the suspension is necessitated by Phase-II repair works on the Sindh Power (SP) Canal, which are scheduled to be undertaken by CMD Ganderbal. These repairs are critical for maintaining the integrity and operational efficiency of the water supply infrastructure.
During the stipulated period, the raw water supply to all water treatment plants and water supply schemes that rely on the Sindh Power Canal will be unavailable. This interruption in the raw water source will directly impact the treatment and distribution of potable water to the consumer end.
The potable water supply is slated to be suspended from 6:00 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and is expected to resume by 6:00 AM on Monday, April 27, 2026. This two-day period will require consumers to make alternative arrangements for their water needs.
