Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored the significance of citizen involvement in the ongoing Census exercise, calling it a collective responsibility rather than merely a governmental task. He stressed that the active participation of every individual is crucial for the success of Census 2027.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that during his monthly radio address, ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Modi assured the public that all data collected during the census would be maintained with utmost security and confidentiality. He urged all citizens to actively participate and contribute to making Census 2027 a comprehensive and successful undertaking.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the national Census is a paramount campaign currently underway across the country, and it is essential for every Indian to be aware of its importance. He noted that the Indian Census is recognized as the largest such enumeration exercise globally, reflecting its immense scale and scope.
Census 2027 has embraced a digital approach, with all information being recorded directly through technological means. Personnel tasked with visiting households are equipped with a mobile application to capture data on-site during their interactions with citizens.
Further enhancing accessibility, the Prime Minister announced a self-enumeration facility, allowing citizens to record their own details. This option will be available for a period of 15 days prior to the official visit by census enumerators, offering individuals the flexibility to complete the process at their convenience.
Upon successful completion of the self-enumeration, individuals will receive a unique identification number via mobile or email. This ID can then be presented to the census enumerator during their visit, enabling them to confirm the pre-recorded details and streamlining the verification process. This system aims to eliminate the need for providing information twice, thereby making the entire exercise more efficient and seamless.
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned that in states where the self-enumeration phase has been completed, the work of house-listing by census officials has already commenced. To date, the house-listing process for approximately 12 million families has been concluded, indicating steady progress in the enumeration efforts.
For individuals who have participated in previous census exercises, their experience with the current digital and self-enumeration approach is expected to be notably different and potentially more convenient.
