Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed strong confidence on Monday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the next government in West Bengal, declaring he would return for the oath-taking ceremony following the announcement of results on May 4. The Prime Minister addressed a campaign rally in Barrackpore, located in the North 24 Parganas district, on the final day of campaigning for the second and last phase of the state assembly elections.
PM Accuses TMC of ‘Syndicate Raj’, Violence
During his address, Prime Minister Modi launched a vigorous critique of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that the party had overseen a period of “syndicate raj,” widespread political violence, and economic stagnation in the state. “The mood that I have sensed in West Bengal, I can say that I have to come again during the oath-taking ceremony of the BJP government after May 4,” Modi stated to a cheering crowd.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Prime Minister invoked the historical significance of Barrackpore, recalling its pivotal role in India’s first war of independence in 1857, and suggested that the region was now poised to usher in political change in West Bengal. He emphasized the importance of West Bengal’s progress for India’s overall development and highlighted the crucial role of the eastern region’s advancement for the nation’s future.
“My destiny and responsibility are to serve, secure and save West Bengal,” Prime Minister Modi declared. He drew parallels with recent electoral successes of the BJP in neighbouring states, stating, “After Odisha and Bihar, the lotus will bloom in West Bengal too this time.” The Prime Minister further alleged that the TMC had abandoned its founding principles of ‘Maa, Maati, Maanush’ and lacked any clear vision for the state’s development.
Prime Minister Modi contended that industrial units were closing down while criminal networks were expanding. He said, “On one hand, mills are closing down and on the other, crude bomb factories are coming up, employing goons, and the TMC’s syndicate is expanding.” He urged the electorate to reject what he termed the “syndicate raj.” The Prime Minister accused the ruling party of relying on abuse and intimidation rather than effective governance.
“TMC’s only strategy seems to be hurling abuses, issuing threats and spreading falsehoods. They have targeted me, constitutional institutions and even the armed forces with their derogatory remarks,” he alleged. The Prime Minister’s remarks come as the state is nearing the conclusion of its multi-phase assembly elections, with campaigning intensity peaking in the final leg.
