SRINAGAR: Srinagar police have apprehended two individuals, including a woman, from outside the Union Territory during a routine checking operation in the Kralkhud area. Heroin was recovered from their possession, authorities reported on Tuesday.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the arrested individuals have been identified as Menu, 45, wife of Roshan Ali, and Manan Ahmad Sheikh, 29, son of Roshan Ali. Both individuals hail from Najeebabad in the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to police statements, the pair was intercepted by law enforcement personnel during a standard security checkpoint. Subsequent to the interception, a quantity of heroin was found and seized from them. Following the discovery, both Menu and Manan Ahmad Sheikh were taken into custody by the police.
A case has been registered at Police Station Kralkhud under FIR number 19/2026. The charges fall under sections 8/21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which pertains to the possession, trafficking, and financing of illicit drugs.
The police have initiated further investigations into the matter to ascertain the source of the contraband and any potential network involved in the drug trade. The operation highlights ongoing efforts by the authorities in Srinagar to curb the influx and distribution of narcotics within the region.
