Delhi Government Initiates 12-Day Outreach to Bolster School Education

The Delhi government has launched a comprehensive 12-day outreach initiative aimed at strengthening the operational framework of its schools by fostering direct engagement with Heads of Schools across the capital. The program intends to address various aspects of school functioning, from academic performance to infrastructure development and administrative concerns.

Ministerial Visits Target Systemic Improvements

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the initiative involves Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood and a dedicated team from the Directorate of Education visiting districts to engage in detailed discussions. These interactions will cover academic outcomes, progress in infrastructure development, human resource needs, and other critical administrative and educational matters pertinent to the functioning of government schools.

On Monday, Minister Sood held an extensive meeting with principals and Heads of Schools from Zone-1 and Zone-2 of the East District at CM Shri School, Surajmal Vihar. The discussions centred on enhancing the academic environment, ensuring the delivery of quality education, reinforcing school infrastructure, and elevating standards of safety and cleanliness within school premises.

During the session, Minister Sood conducted a review of existing infrastructural facilities. He issued directives to officials for the strengthening of classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sports amenities, provisions for drinking water, sanitation facilities, and digital education infrastructure.

Focus on Holistic Development and Stakeholder Collaboration

Addressing the gathered principals and Heads of Schools, the minister underscored the imperative of sustained dialogue and coordination to elevate the quality of education provided in Delhi government schools. He articulated that the primary objective of this outreach programme is to gain a direct understanding of the challenges encountered at the school level, to solicit suggestions from educators and administrative staff, and ultimately to foster an environment where government schools become more modern, empowered, and conducive to student learning.

Minister Sood emphasized that the government’s commitment extends beyond mere academic achievements, encompassing the holistic development and overall well-being of students. He stated that the Delhi Government’s aim is not solely to secure improved examination results but to cultivate a positive, secure, and inspiring academic atmosphere that facilitates the comprehensive growth of students.

The minister further highlighted the significance of discipline, consistent attendance, the adoption of contemporary teaching methodologies, and increased student involvement in school activities. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by teachers, principals, parents, and administrators in the collective effort to fortify the education system.

“Heads of Schools, teachers, vice principals, principals, administrative officers, parents, and all other stakeholders are important contributors in improving the education system,” Minister Sood remarked.

Recognition of East Delhi Schools’ Progress Amidst Wider Reforms

Minister Sood commended the performance of schools in East Delhi, noting a substantial improvement in Class 10 board examination results. Official figures indicate that Zone-1 saw an increase in its pass percentage from 94.57 per cent in 2024-25 to 98.53 per cent in 2025-26. Similarly, Zone-2 registered an improvement from 89.30 per cent to 96.54 per cent over the same period. The number of schools achieving a 100 per cent pass rate also saw a marked increase in both zones.

Addressing concerns regarding student welfare, Minister Sood stressed the necessity for schools to accord equal importance to mental health and the establishment of robust emotional support systems. He advised that “Schools must not focus only on academic results but also pay attention to identifying students’ mental conditions, stress, depression, and emotional issues.”

The minister also reiterated the importance of school safety, asserting that there should be no vulnerable areas within school premises where untoward incidents could occur.

Digital Transformation and Equity in Education

In a significant move towards enhancing digital learning, Minister Sood announced the Delhi Government’s objective to transform all 38,000 classrooms in the capital into smart classrooms. He informed that approximately 9,000 smart classrooms, 175 ICT labs, 100 language labs, and 100 digital libraries are currently under development.

Furthermore, the Education Minister emphasized the expansion of science education opportunities for students from economically weaker sections, advocating for equitable access to science education and professional pathways for every child.

Discussions also included plans for implementing biometric attendance systems, fostering collaborative school inspections, and restructuring teacher training programmes to minimize disruptions during academic sessions. He stressed the importance of relieving teachers from non-academic duties whenever feasible, enabling them to concentrate primarily on classroom instruction.

Expressing apprehension over the escalating threat of drug-related activities near school campuses, the minister directed school authorities to bolster sports infrastructure and encourage greater student participation in sports. This effort is aimed at cultivating discipline and channeling positive energy among students.

The ongoing outreach programme with principals and Heads of Schools is scheduled to continue for the next eleven days. During this period, the Delhi Government intends to conduct similar interactions across all districts to deliberate on reforms designed to comprehensively enhance the overall quality of education in the city.
