NEW DELHI: Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood opted for public transport and an e-rickshaw on Tuesday, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent call to reduce reliance on fuel-driven vehicles amidst the West Asia crisis.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the minister undertook his journey to a school interaction event in East Delhi, first travelling by the Delhi Metro and subsequently hiring an e-rickshaw after encountering traffic congestion.
The minister was observed engaging with fellow commuters during his metro ride. Upon disembarking, he proceeded to take an e-rickshaw for the remainder of his journey to the CM Shri School in Surajmal Vihar, where he was scheduled to participate in an interaction programme with school heads.
The initiative by the Delhi minister comes shortly after Prime Minister Modi, addressing a rally organised by the Telangana BJP in Hyderabad on Sunday, implored citizens to decrease their consumption of petrol and diesel. He specifically advocated for increased utilization of public transport systems, including metro rail services in urban areas.
Prime Minister Modi’s broader suggestions to conserve foreign exchange during the ongoing international crisis in West Asia also encompassed carpooling, the adoption of electric vehicles, increased reliance on railway parcel services, and the implementation of work-from-home arrangements. The appeal aims to mitigate the impact of global fuel price volatility on the Indian economy.
