A Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus mounted a road divider near the Rajghat traffic signal in central Delhi on Monday, following an alleged failure of its braking system. The incident, which occurred during daylight hours, caused temporary traffic disruptions but resulted in no injuries or casualties.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the bus, operating on the Sarai Kale Khan to Rajghat route, experienced a malfunction in its braking system as it approached the busy intersection. In a bid to prevent a more serious accident, the driver reportedly steered the vehicle onto the divider, bringing it to a halt diagonally across the road.

Several videos circulating on social media platforms depicted the DTC bus stranded on the divider, drawing the attention of commuters and onlookers. Preliminary inquiries by the police confirmed that the bus was empty at the time of the incident, with only the driver and the conductor on board. Both individuals escaped the situation unharmed.

A senior police official present at the scene stated that the driver’s prompt action in maneuvering the bus onto the divider was crucial in avoiding potential collisions with other vehicles or pedestrians. The incident prompted a swift response from police and traffic personnel who were dispatched to manage the traffic flow and arrange for the removal of the vehicle.

The presence of the bus on the divider led to a temporary snarl-up in traffic in the vicinity of the Rajghat signal, a key junction in the capital. Passers-by were seen gathering at the site, observing and recording the unfolding situation on their mobile phones.

A Public Complaints and Reports (PCR) call concerning the incident was received at the IP Estate police station, leading to the immediate deployment of police teams to the location. Law enforcement officials have initiated a further investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the technical malfunction that led to the brake failure.

The DTC management has acknowledged the incident and stated that a formal report has been requested from the concerned depot manager to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the event. This investigation aims to identify the root cause of the mechanical issue and implement necessary measures to prevent recurrence.

The incident underscores the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for public transport vehicles operating in densely populated urban environments. While no injuries were reported in this specific instance, such mechanical failures can pose significant risks to public safety.
