Dismembered Body of Woman Found in Train Coach in Lucknow, Police Launch Investigation

A gruesome discovery was made on Sunday at Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar railway station when railway staff, during a routine cleaning of the Chhapra-Gomti Nagar Express, found a steel box and a heavy-duty cargo bag containing the dismembered body of an unidentified woman. The grim find has prompted the Government Railway Police (GRP) to launch a comprehensive investigation.

The discovery was made after the train concluded its journey from Chhapra, Bihar, and arrived at Gomti Nagar station. Sanitation workers cleaning the S1 sleeper coach noticed the unclaimed luggage near the lavatory. Suspicious about the unattended items, they alerted station authorities, who in turn informed the RPF and GRP. Upon opening the steel box, railway officials found the headless torso of a woman dressed in a blood-soaked salwar kameez. The accompanying cargo bag contained her severed limbs, also packed in polythene bags.

Police Investigation Underway

According to GRP Superintendent of Police Rohit Mishra, the victim is estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old and was likely murdered between 10 to 12 hours prior to the discovery of her body. The absence of the head has made immediate identification challenging. Three police teams have been formed to investigate the incident. These teams are tasked with examining CCTV footage from various stations along the train’s route to identify the individual who placed the box and bag on the train. Additionally, one team is working to gather information from passengers who travelled in the S1 coach, seeking any clues about suspicious activity or individuals.

Forensic experts were called to the scene to collect evidence from the coach and the recovered luggage. Police suspect that the body parts were transported on the train after the murder in an attempt to conceal the crime and mislead investigators. Authorities are exploring various motives, including personal rivalries or domestic conflicts, and are examining whether the murder occurred elsewhere before the body was transported to Lucknow.

The Chhapra-Gomti Nagar Express travels a significant route, and police believe the accused may have exploited the busy train service to dispose of the body unnoticed. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to identifying the victim and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
