A Bhopal court has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Samarth Singh, the husband of deceased model and actress Twisha Sharma, escalating the police investigation into her death. Authorities have announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the absconding lawyer.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that Twisha Sharma, 33, was found deceased at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. The couple had reportedly married in December 2025, having met through a dating application the previous year.
The case is currently under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Misrod ACP Rajneesh Kashyap. Twisha Sharma’s family has raised serious allegations, claiming she endured persistent dowry harassment and mental torture, ultimately leading to her death. These accusations have been contested by Samarth Singh’s mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, who had previously obtained anticipatory bail.
During the recent court proceedings, Samarth Singh’s legal counsel argued against his arrest, presenting claims that Twisha Sharma suffered from psychiatric issues and drug addiction. Countering these assertions, Twisha’s family described her as cheerful and vibrant prior to her marriage, alleging significant weight loss due to harassment post-wedding.
Sessions Court Judge Pallavi Dwivedi denied Samarth Singh’s anticipatory bail application after considering arguments from both the prosecution and the defence. Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, expressed satisfaction with the court’s order but stated that true justice would only be achieved upon the arrest and conviction of both the husband and mother-in-law.
Further complicating the case, details from Samarth Singh’s bail plea, which emerged online, alleged that Twisha Sharma was undergoing psychiatric treatment and counselling. The plea also claimed her hands and feet exhibited trembling without the use of narcotics. It was further stated in the plea that she had experienced a miscarriage and had a period of absence during a trip to Delhi in April.
Twisha Sharma’s family has vehemently dismissed these claims, characterizing them as an effort to tarnish her reputation. Her cousin, Meenakshi, alleged that the harassment intensified after Twisha lost her work-from-home employment and became pregnant. She further claimed that Twisha’s husband refused to acknowledge the child, according to reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The ongoing investigation has also brought to light procedural shortcomings in the initial police handling of the case. ACP Kashyap confirmed that the rope reportedly used in the incident was not submitted to AIIMS Bhopal for examination during the post-mortem procedure. He indicated that appropriate action would be taken against the investigating officer found responsible for this lapse.
While the preliminary autopsy report suggests death by hanging, Twisha’s family has alleged the presence of multiple injury marks on her body, which they believe indicate potential murder and evidence tampering. The family’s concerns have been amplified by the fact that Twisha Sharma’s body has remained in a Bhopal mortuary for five days, as her relatives are demanding a fresh and independent post-mortem examination to be conducted at AIIMS Delhi.
On Sunday, relatives of Twisha Sharma staged a protest outside the residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, voicing their grievances and alleging that the local investigation process had been compromised. The SIT continues its efforts to locate and apprehend Samarth Singh.
