Budgam: Minor Girl’s Death Prima Facie Rape and Murder, Police Investigate

SRINAGAR: Authorities in Budgam district of central Kashmir have stated that the death of a 12-year-old girl in Galwanpora is, at this stage, considered a prima facie case of rape and murder. The police have mobilized all available resources to expedite the investigation and achieve an early breakthrough.

According to details received by The Chenab Times, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Budgam informed the press that the police were alerted to the minor’s disappearance around 10 p.m. on May 23. A First Information Report (FIR) was promptly registered under relevant sections pertaining to the kidnapping of a minor, and extensive search operations commenced immediately and continued through the night.

The girl’s body was discovered at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, located about 200 meters from her residence. Medico-legal formalities were subsequently completed.

The SSP further elaborated that, based on preliminary findings, the incident appears to be a case of rape and murder, and all applicable legal sections have been incorporated into the investigation. The police are currently conducting thorough searches in and around the recovery site, deploying tracker dogs within a one-kilometer radius. Additionally, CCTV footage from surrounding areas is under meticulous examination.

Local suspects are being questioned, and evidence seizure and verification processes are ongoing simultaneously. The police appealed to the public for cooperation, urging them to refrain from circulating misinformation or unverified content related to the case. This investigation has been designated as a top priority for Budgam Police, with all available manpower and investigative expertise dedicated to its resolution.

Senior police officials visited the area and indicated that investigators are nearing a significant development in the case. They reiterated their appeal to the public for continued support and cooperation throughout the investigative process.

Agha Muntazir, the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Budgam, condemned the killing and called for stringent action against those found responsible. He urged the administration to swiftly identify and apprehend the culprits, emphasizing the necessity of collective efforts to uphold moral and social values and prevent such heinous incidents in the future.

In a related development, Budgam Police issued an advisory cautioning the public and media against sharing the identity, photographs, or any personal details of the minor victim on social media platforms. The advisory stressed that any violation of this directive would result in severe legal action.
