A 35-year-old man, who disappeared days after participating in the election campaign for a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in Moga, has been found murdered. The body was discovered on Sunday in a vacant plot near a railway overbridge on Kotkapura Road, three days after he was last seen.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deceased has been identified as Amandeep Singh, a resident of Mehme Singh Wala village. According to his family, Amandeep had been actively campaigning for his friend Krishan Saini, who is contesting the municipal elections from Ward 15 as a BJP nominee. He was last seen leaving the campaign venue around 7:30 pm on May 21, reportedly heading back to his village. However, he never reached home, prompting his family to file a missing person report with the police.
The discovery of the body on Sunday led to a somber reunion for the family, who rushed to the site near the railway overbridge. They identified the recovered body as that of Amandeep Singh. The family has alleged that he was murdered and has demanded an immediate investigation and the arrest of those responsible for his death. Amandeep Singh is survived by his two daughters.
Moga Police confirmed that a missing person report had been registered prior to the recovery of the body. Following the discovery, a case of murder has been officially registered, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway. A team of forensic experts visited the crime scene to gather evidence. The exact circumstances and method of his murder remain unclear at this stage.
While the family’s allegations point towards foul play, initial police investigations are reportedly steering away from political motives. According to preliminary findings shared by a senior police officer, the incident may have stemmed from an altercation. The officer stated that the deceased initially had an argument with a watchman, after which he was found dead. The police are pursuing this lead as part of their ongoing inquiry to ascertain the sequence of events leading to Amandeep Singh’s death and to identify any individuals involved.
