SRINAGAR: Police in Anantnag district of South Kashmir have arrested two individuals suspected of drug peddling and seized a significant quantity of a charas-like substance and cash during a routine checkpoint operation.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the operation took place when a police party established a checkpoint and intercepted an Eon vehicle, bearing registration number JK04D-2959. A comprehensive search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 4.475 kilograms of the contraband substance, which was reportedly concealed within the cavities of the front doors and wrapped in corn husk. Approximately Rs 50,000 in cash was also recovered from the possession of the arrested individuals.
The individuals apprehended have been identified as Sajad Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh. Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Dedmeribagh Chadoora in Budgam, and Abdul Gani Dar, son of Ali Mohammad Dar, from Tulkhan Bijbehara.
Authorities have registered a First Information Report (FIR) No. 138/2026 at the relevant police station under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. An investigation has commenced to identify the broader network associated with the alleged narcotics trade, including tracing forward and backward linkages.
Law enforcement agencies in the region are intensifying efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks that operate within South Kashmir. Police have reiterated their appeal to the public to come forward with any information pertaining to narcotics-related activities, emphasizing that such intelligence is crucial for assisting enforcement agencies in their operations and for safeguarding the community from the scourge of drugs.
