SRINAGAR: Budgam Police have successfully solved the murder case of a 12-year-old girl from Galwanpora village, arresting a local resident within 36 hours of the crime being reported. Officials described the investigation as scientific and evidence-based, leading to the swift resolution.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the accused has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Galwanpora Sebdan in Budgam district. Authorities had initially withheld his identity to ensure the integrity of crucial medico-legal, forensic, and evidentiary procedures, stating that early disclosure could have prejudiced the ongoing investigation.
The incident began on the evening of May 23 when the minor girl went missing from her residence. Information regarding her disappearance was received by Police Station Budgam around 10 p.m. A case was promptly registered under FIR No. 139/2026, and an extensive search operation was initiated.
In the early hours of May 24, the girl’s body was discovered a short distance from her home. This discovery led police to intensify their investigation from all possible angles.
The District Police Budgam subsequently formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct what officials termed a “swift, professional and scientific” probe. The team was headed by DySP Headquarters Budgam, Sajad Ahmad (JKPS).
The investigation involved a meticulous examination of the crime scene, the collection and analysis of biological and material evidence, and the scrutiny of digital evidence, including CCTV footage. Human intelligence inputs and sustained field operations were also integral to the process.
According to a police statement, the investigating team systematically cross-verified and corroborated technical, physical, and circumstantial evidence, which ultimately narrowed down the focus to the prime suspect.
Officials indicated that multiple individuals were questioned during the course of the probe before evidence pointed towards the accused’s involvement. During sustained interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to his role in the crime.
Police further stated that additional material evidence related to the offence was recovered based on the accused’s disclosures, and further legal provisions have been invoked in the case. The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, with authorities confirming that further inquiries are ongoing.
Investigators have also stated that the current findings of the investigation have established that no other individual was involved in the commission of the crime.
