Jammu and Kashmir Schools Extended Holiday for Eid-ul-Adha

SRINAGAR: All educational institutions across the Kashmir Division will observe an extended holiday until Friday, May 29, 2026, to facilitate Eid-ul-Adha celebrations. The decision, announced on Tuesday, encompasses both government and recognized private schools in the region.

Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) issued an order formally declaring the special holiday. The notice explicitly stated that the extended closure is in view of the ongoing festivities associated with Eid-ul-Adha.

The Education Minister, Sakina Itoo, had previously stated that schools would be closed for three days for the occasion. This latest directive supersedes previous announcements, ensuring students have additional time to participate in the religious observances and family gatherings associated with the festival.

In parallel, the General Administration Department of the Union Territory has also sanctioned a special one-day casual leave for government employees. This leave is intended for those employees who wish to observe the festival and partake in its associated activities, further underscoring the significance of Eid-ul-Adha.

The extended holiday period aims to provide a more comprehensive break for students and staff, allowing them to fully engage with the religious and cultural aspects of Eid-ul-Adha. The decision reflects an understanding of the importance of such festivals for the community and the need to accommodate traditional practices.

The announcement comes as the Union Territory prepares for the observance of Eid-ul-Adha, a significant Islamic festival. The extended break is expected to allow families to celebrate together without the immediate pressure of academic schedules. School authorities are anticipated to issue further notifications regarding the resumption of regular academic activities after the extended break.
