SRINAGAR: Altaf Bukhari, president of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP), has accused regional political parties in Kashmir of maintaining ambiguous stances towards both the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the INDIA bloc.

The Chenab Times has learned that Bukhari made these remarks during a public address, suggesting that these parties are strategically positioning themselves to benefit regardless of the national election outcomes. He implied that their approach is driven by self-interest rather than a commitment to the welfare of Jammu and Kashmir.

Bukhari specifically criticized the leadership of parties like the National Conference and the Peoples Democratic Party, alleging they have a history of aligning with whichever national coalition is in power to secure their political and personal interests. He suggested this ‘hedging’ strategy allows them to remain relevant and influential in local politics while avoiding direct accountability on national issues.

The JKAP chief emphasized that his party, in contrast, has always maintained a clear and principled stance, advocating for the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He called for transparency and honesty in political discourse, urging voters to scrutinize the past actions and stated intentions of all political entities operating in the region.

He further stated that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve political parties that are unequivocally committed to their cause and not those that play a ‘wait and watch’ game with national alliances. Bukhari’s statements come at a time when political discussions in the region are intensifying ahead of potential electoral developments.

The political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir has seen significant shifts following the abrogation of Article 370. Several regional parties have been navigating this new environment, with differing approaches towards national parties and the central government. Bukhari’s remarks appear to be an attempt to differentiate the Apni Party from its rivals by positioning it as a more straightforward and regionally focused political force.

The accusations highlight the complex political dynamics at play in the Union Territory, where regional aspirations often intersect with national political narratives. The people of Jammu and Kashmir are keenly observing these political strategies as they assess their future representation and the policies that will impact their lives.

Bukhari urged the electorate to look beyond rhetoric and assess which parties truly represent their aspirations and have a clear agenda for the development and empowerment of the region. He suggested that a clear mandate for parties with a singular focus on regional issues would be more beneficial for Jammu and Kashmir.

The ongoing political discourse, marked by such accusations, underscores the continuing evolution of political alignments and strategies in Jammu and Kashmir as various parties vie for influence and public trust in the aftermath of significant constitutional changes.
