Authorities at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi have seized a significant quantity of hashish, totaling 4.4 kilograms, from a passenger attempting to travel to Amman via Sharjah. The passenger was apprehended during early morning hours on June 10.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that alerted personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) identified the individual based on suspicious behaviour in the check-in area. The passenger was subsequently selected for random screening.
During the thorough screening of the passenger’s baggage, multiple packets containing a substance suspected to be narcotic or psychotropic were discovered. The contraband was found to be artfully concealed within new clothing items packed inside the luggage.
The matter was promptly escalated to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Delhi Zone, which dispatched a team to the airport. Upon arrival, the NCB team conducted a field drug test on the recovered substance. The test confirmed the presence of hashish, also known as charas.
The seizure comprised 20 individual packets of hashish, collectively weighing 4.4 kilograms. Following the positive identification of the substance, the NCB team proceeded to complete all necessary legal formalities, including the preparation of a seizure list.
The apprehended passenger, along with the seized hashish, was taken by the NCB team to the NCB Delhi Zone Office for further investigation and legal proceedings. The operation highlights the ongoing efforts by airport authorities and law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking.
