Himachal Pradesh Police launched a comprehensive statewide operation on Wednesday, raiding the suspected premises, residences, and hideouts of 236 individuals accused of drug trafficking. The multi-district initiative resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics and illicit liquor.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the police recovered approximately 12.59 grams of chitta (heroin), 13.8 kilograms of poppy husk, 70 grams of opium, and 14.25 litres of illicit liquor. Additionally, a sum of Rs 2,31,690 in cash was confiscated during the coordinated raids conducted across various districts of the state.

‘Chitta-Free Himachal’ Campaign Intensifies

The operation, carried out under Phase-II of the ‘Chitta-Free Himachal’ campaign, saw the involvement of district police teams and the Special Task Force (STF). These law enforcement units meticulously executed searches based on gathered intelligence and technical analysis. Authorities reported the registration of five cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which governs drug-related offenses in India. Furthermore, two cases were filed under the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act, pertaining to the illegal trade of liquor.

Intelligence-Led Operation Targets Drug Networks

Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Tewari stated that the special state-level operation was a result of careful planning and execution. He emphasized that the raids were predicated on solid intelligence inputs, detailed technical analysis, and crucial inter-district coordination, ensuring a broad and effective sweep against drug peddlers. The primary objective of this extensive campaign, the DGP explained, was to pinpoint and dismantle active drug trafficking networks operating within the state. By disrupting these narcotics supply chains, the police aim to curb the flow of illegal substances and ensure stringent legal repercussions for all individuals involved in this illicit trade.

The DGP further elaborated on the multi-pronged approach of the ‘Chitta-Free Himachal’ campaign. He noted that the initiative extends beyond mere enforcement actions, incorporating broader societal efforts. A significant component of the campaign involves raising public awareness regarding the severe detrimental effects of drug abuse. This includes educational outreach programs designed to inform citizens, particularly the youth, about the dangers associated with narcotics. Concurrently, the police are working to strengthen community participation and foster a collective responsibility in safeguarding young people from the pervasive threat of drug addiction.

The state police have consistently been engaged in efforts to combat the growing menace of drug trafficking and consumption, which poses a significant challenge to public health and social order. This latest statewide operation signifies an intensification of these efforts, reflecting a determined approach by the Himachal Pradesh Police to curb drug-related criminal activities and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. The authorities have indicated that such operations will continue to be conducted regularly to maintain pressure on drug traffickers and prevent the proliferation of illegal substances within the state.
