Jammu and Kashmir Police Detain Notorious Drug Peddler Under PIT NDPS Act in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR, June 12: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal district have apprehended a prominent drug peddler, Fayaz Ahmad Khanday, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act. The action follows formal detention orders issued by the competent authority, signifying a strong stance against narcotics trafficking in the region.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that Fayaz Ahmad Khanday, son of Abdul Khaliq Khanday and a resident of Pati Shalbugh in Ganderbal, has been identified as a habitual offender repeatedly involved in the illicit trade of narcotics. Authorities stated that his activities primarily targeted and exploited local youth, contributing to drug abuse within the community.

Following the issuance of the detention order, Khanday was taken into custody and subsequently transferred to District Jail Bhaderwah. This development is part of an ongoing effort by the Jammu and Kashmir Police to dismantle drug networks operating in the Union Territory and to safeguard the younger generation from the perils of substance abuse.

The police administration has reiterated its commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and has urged the public to remain vigilant. Citizens are encouraged to report any information related to drug peddling or suspicious activities to the authorities. The police assurance that every piece of information is crucial in fostering a safer and drug-free society underscores the collaborative approach authorities are seeking.

Sources within the police department indicated that strict legal action will be pursued against all individuals found to be involved in the illicit narcotics trade. This operation is seen as a significant step in the J&K Police’s broader mission to address the root causes of drug abuse and to protect the social fabric of the region.

The detention under the PIT NDPS Act allows for the detention of individuals involved in drug trafficking to prevent them from engaging in further illicit activities. The Act aims to curb the supply of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by detaining habitual offenders.

The crackdown in Ganderbal is indicative of a wider strategy being implemented across Jammu and Kashmir to combat the growing menace of drug abuse, which poses a significant threat to public health and social well-being. Police officials have stated that such operations will continue with increased intensity to ensure the safety and security of the region’s inhabitants, particularly its youth.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police continue to emphasize their resolve in taking stringent measures against all elements involved in anti-social activities. Their proactive approach aims to create a deterrent effect and to build confidence among the public regarding the safety and security measures in place.
