VISAKHAPATNAM: In a humanitarian effort to combat the prevailing summer heat, the Builders Association of India (BAI), Vizag Steel City Centre, has been distributing buttermilk to citizens visiting Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) counters across Visakhapatnam. This initiative, now in its fifth consecutive week, has provided much-needed relief to thousands of individuals seeking to address their concerns with civic authorities.
The distribution efforts have been centered at the PGRS counters located at the District Collectorate, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), and the Police Commissionerate. According to a press release issued on Monday, the BAI Vizag Steel City Centre reported that the initiative has aided approximately 3,500 citizens over the past weeks, offering them a cool respite from the intense summer temperatures.
The community service program saw the inauguration of buttermilk distribution by Commissioner of Police Shankarabrata Bagchi at the Police Commissionerate during one of the PGRS events. He commended the BAI Vizag Steel City Centre for their commendable initiative and encouraged its members to continue their socially beneficial endeavors.
Public attendees at the Public Grievance Redressal System centers expressed their appreciation for the contractors’ commitment to this thoughtful program, designed to quench the thirst of people interacting with government services during the peak summer season. The initiative underscores the BAI’s dedication to community welfare and its role in supporting the public during challenging weather conditions.
The BAI Vizag Steel City Centre’s efforts are part of a broader trend of corporate social responsibility in the region. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the parent entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has a long-standing commitment to CSR, focusing on areas such as peripheral development, education, health, and community care. While specific details on RINL’s current CSR activities are extensive, their historical engagement includes developing model steel villages, constructing bus shelters, and providing educational and health support in the Visakhapatnam district.
This ongoing buttermilk distribution by the BAI Vizag Steel City Centre serves as a direct and impactful response to the immediate needs of the community, particularly those who are required to visit public offices during the hottest parts of the day. The initiative highlights the significance of simple yet effective measures in providing comfort and support to citizens while they engage with essential public services.
