A critical thyroid cancer surgery, typically performed in super-specialty facilities, was successfully carried out at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Paderu, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district. The complex procedure involved a ‘Total Thyroidectomy’ combined with a ‘Modified Radical Neck Dissection’ to remove both the thyroid gland and cancerous lymph nodes.

Advanced Procedure Performed in Tribal Region Hospital

The patient, a 24-year-old woman from Lingaputtu village, sought treatment at Paderu Hospital after noticing swelling in her neck. Following diagnostic tests, she was diagnosed with Papillary Carcinoma of the thyroid, with the cancer having spread to the lymph nodes on the left side of her neck. Medical officials at GGH Paderu stated that the complexity of her condition necessitated an immediate surgical intervention.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that such intricate surgeries are generally confined to major metropolitan hospitals. The successful execution of this procedure at a government hospital in a tribal district signifies an improvement in healthcare infrastructure within the region.

Patient Recovering Well Post-Surgery

The surgical team at Paderu GGH managed to successfully remove the entire thyroid gland and all affected lymph nodes. According to hospital officials, the patient is currently recovering well and remains under close observation. The successful surgery has been hailed as a proud moment for the medical team, underscoring the advancements in healthcare facilities available in the area.

This development highlights the growing capabilities of district-level government hospitals in Andhra Pradesh to handle specialized medical procedures, potentially reducing the need for patients to travel to larger cities for advanced treatments.
