Srinagar, June 19: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, has instructed senior police officers to ensure complete readiness to address all security and logistical challenges ahead of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. The directive emphasizes the robust implementation of the established security grid along the pilgrimage route.
According to details received by The Chenab Times, the IGP Kashmir conducted a comprehensive briefing for Zonal and Sector Officers, focusing on reviewing coordination and operational preparedness. The meeting, held to gear up for the annual pilgrimage, was attended by Deputy Inspectors General of Police for CKR Srinagar and SKR Anantnag, DIG Armed Kashmir, SSP PCR Kashmir, SO to IGP Kashmir, and other senior officials involved in the Yatra arrangements.
During the briefing, IGP Birdi underscored the critical importance of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and vigilance to guarantee the safe, smooth, and successful conduct of the Yatra. Officers were specifically directed to be fully equipped to manage potential security and logistical hurdles, reinforcing the effectiveness of the existing security framework.
Further instructions were issued by the IGP to Zonal Officers to conduct regular briefings for Sector Officers and subordinate personnel. This measure aims to ensure that all deployed staff are thoroughly informed about their respective duties, responsibilities, and the current security situation. Continuous supervision and clear communication across all levels of deployment were highlighted as essential.
The IGP also stressed the necessity of close coordination with other agencies operating in their respective areas. This collaboration is crucial for seamless information sharing, establishing joint response mechanisms, and synchronizing operational efforts throughout the duration of the Yatra.
Emphasizing the public service aspect of their roles, IGP Kashmir urged all officers and personnel to provide maximum possible assistance to the devotees, prioritizing their safety, comfort, and overall well-being. He reiterated the importance of maintaining a people-friendly approach while executing their duties.
The IGP further emphasized the need for strict adherence to discipline, professionalism, and established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). All ranks were encouraged to remain alert, maintain a high level of operational readiness, and uphold the reputation of the police force through exemplary conduct.
The meeting concluded with an in-depth review of existing coordination mechanisms and contingency plans designed to ensure an incident-free and peaceful Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
