Ludhiana Municipal Commissioner Flags Cleanliness, Mobility Challenges

Ludhiana, Punjab – Ojasvi Alankar, who assumed charge as the Municipal Corporation Commissioner of Ludhiana three days ago, has identified cleanliness and waste management as his foremost priorities amidst several developmental challenges facing the city. His commitment stems from Ludhiana’s recent performance in the Swachh Survekshan survey, prompting a focus on achieving a litter-free urban environment.

The Chenab Times has learned that Commissioner Alankar, familiar with the city’s administrative landscape from previous tenures, expressed a keen understanding of Ludhiana’s needs. He emphasized the critical importance of comprehensive waste management, encompassing domestic, construction, and hospital refuse. To achieve a cleaner and more garbage-free city, the Commissioner plans to foster collaboration with residents and non-governmental organizations.

“Cleanliness and sanitation are the utmost important areas,” stated the Commissioner, highlighting the necessity for robust systems to tackle the city’s waste. He announced his intention to convene a meeting with relevant departments to initiate cleaning operations along the Buddha Nullah and address choked sewerages, alongside prioritizing storm-water management.

Enhancing Public Mobility

Beyond sanitation, Commissioner Alankar intends to focus on improving public transportation within Ludhiana. He noted that despite its considerable population, the city lacks adequate public transport infrastructure to cater to residents’ needs. Recognizing the urgency for enhanced mobility, the Municipal Corporation is in the process of acquiring approximately 100 electric buses, expected to be inducted within the next few months. The introduction of these e-buses is anticipated to provide significant relief to the commuting public.

Addressing Illegal Constructions

The Municipal Commissioner also addressed concerns regarding illegal constructions in the city. He indicated that his office has been receiving numerous complaints related to such activities. Demonstrating immediate engagement with the issue, Commissioner Alankar convened a meeting with the Building Department on a public holiday to gather feedback and formulate subsequent actions. He stated that his approach to developmental works, irrespective of political affiliations, would be based on merit and priority, ensuring that essential works are completed across all wards.

Commissioner Alankar’s agenda reflects a multi-faceted approach to urban governance, aiming to tackle immediate civic issues while laying the groundwork for long-term improvements in infrastructure and public services in Ludhiana.
