Three individuals have been arrested in Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala district, Punjab, after a video depicting suspected drug consumption inside a passenger bus gained widespread attention on social media. The circulating footage has ignited public concern regarding the efficacy of the state’s ongoing campaign against drug abuse.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the video shows a woman and three youths allegedly consuming intoxicating substances while seated within a bus. In response to the video’s virality, the Sultanpur Lodhi police promptly registered a case against the individuals featured in the footage.
DSP Dhirendra Verma stated that police successfully identified three youths from the video and have taken them into custody. The identity of the woman appearing in the recording, however, remains unestablished at this time. The arrested individuals have been identified as Jugraj Singh, a resident of Makhu; Ranga Singh, from Chuharpur village under the jurisdiction of Kabirpur police station; and Mushtaq, a resident of Bilga. All three have been formally named in the police case.
The incident has prompted a significant public discussion, with many citizens expressing doubts about the effectiveness of anti-drug enforcement measures, especially when such alleged activities are reportedly occurring in public transport. Social commentators and local residents have voiced the necessity for enhanced monitoring and stricter enforcement protocols, complementing existing awareness initiatives aimed at combating drug addiction across the state.
Police officials have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Further legal action will be pursued against the woman seen in the video once her identity is definitively established.
