Phagwara Police Book Six for Assault, Several Others Held in Separate Incidents

Phagwara, Punjab – In a series of law enforcement actions, the Phagwara police have booked six villagers for alleged criminal trespass and assault. In separate incidents, several other individuals were arrested for theft, drug peddling, and liquor smuggling, highlighting ongoing challenges with crime in the region.

The Chenab Times has learned that the Lohian Khas police registered a case against six residents of Ismailpur village based on a complaint filed by Jaswindar Singh, also a resident of the same village. The accused, identified as Chanan Singh, his son Ranjit Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Lovpreet Singh, Babbu, and Gurmukh, are alleged to have forcibly ploughed 11 kanals of land belonging to the complainant on June 11. When Jaswindar Singh attempted to intervene, he was reportedly attacked and seriously injured by the group.

In another development concerning property crime, the Nurmahal police arrested Pargat Singh of Chuheki village for allegedly stealing cash, a passport, and other items from a house. The complaint was lodged by Salidar Kaur, wife of Jasveer Singh, a resident of Chuheki village. She reported that the accused absconded with Rs 15,000 in cash, a passport, and other valuables. Authorities confirmed that a case has been registered against Pargat Singh, and the stolen items have been recovered from his possession.

The Nakodar police have taken action against individuals allegedly involved in the sale of illicit substances. Two persons, identified as Kulwant Singh, alias Kantu, and Shukaran, alias Karni, both residents of Chak Kalan village, were arrested with 68 intoxicating tablets. A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Separately, the Nurmahal police apprehended Amitabh Kumar, alias Raju, of Chuheki village, who was found in possession of 50 intoxicating tablets.

Authorities have also booked seven individuals on charges of attempted murder following an assault incident. The Mehatpur police registered a case against Balwant Singh, Simranjit Singh, Sanni, Sandeep, Bittu, and Malkit, all reportedly from Madhepura village in Ludhiana, and a person identified as Kali from Moga. The complaint was filed by Karnail Singh, a resident of Beetal village, who alleged that the accused attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, causing him serious injuries.

Further law enforcement activity saw the Nakodar police arrest Dimple Kumar, a resident of Gill village, for alleged liquor smuggling. Investigating officer Buta Ram reported that 22 bottles of liquor were seized from Kumar’s possession. A case has been filed against the accused under the Punjab Excise Act.

In administrative changes, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jalandhar (rural), H.S. Virk, appointed Inspector Aman Saini, previously the Station House Officer (SHO) of Mehatpur, as the new SHO of Shahkot. Baljindar Singh has been appointed as the new SHO of Mehatpur police station.
