Central Kashmir Man Dies After Jumping Into Hydropower Canal

SRINAGAR: A man has died after reportedly jumping into a hydropower canal in the Pushkar area of Kangan, Ganderbal district, central Kashmir, on Wednesday, according to officials.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the deceased has been identified as Ghulam Hassan, a resident of the Pushkar locality in Kangan.

Local residents alerted the police and emergency services after Hassan allegedly jumped into the canal. Following the report, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) based in Gund and Kangan were dispatched to the location and initiated a search operation within the canal.

After an extensive search, the body was retrieved from the canal. It was then transferred to complete medico-legal formalities. Officials confirmed that the body was subsequently handed over to the victim’s family for the performance of last rites.

The circumstances leading to the apparent suicide remain unclear, and the reason behind the man’s action has not been immediately disclosed. Police have registered a case concerning the incident and have commenced an investigation to ascertain the full details surrounding the death.
