Eight individuals sustained injuries when a tempo traveller overturned in the Chapriyan area of Rajouri town, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. Officials reported that the incident occurred in the Chapriyan area, leading to the immediate dispatch of rescue teams to the scene. The injured were subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical attention and treatment. The exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation by local authorities. Police have registered a case concerning the incident and are gathering further details to ascertain the circumstances that led to the vehicle overturning.

This incident is part of a series of road accidents that have occurred in the Jammu and Kashmir region in recent months. In June 2025, a similar accident involving a tempo traveller on the Rajouri-Jammu National Highway (NH 144) near Chingus resulted in two fatalities and seven injuries. The tempo traveller, en route from Rajouri town to Jammu, collided with a mini goods vehicle. In another incident in June 2025, two women were killed and nine others injured in a head-on collision between a tempo traveller and a mini load carrier in Rajouri district.

In July 2026, two persons were injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the Jammu-Poonch National Highway in Rajouri district. The accident involved a Maruti S-Cross and an Alto car near the Water Point, Army Gate. Both injured individuals were taken to Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri. Earlier in July 2026, one man was killed and three others injured in a road accident in the Rajal–Bagnoti area of Rajouri district following a collision between a bus and a car.

Road safety remains a significant concern across Jammu and Kashmir, with frequent accidents often attributed to factors such as high speeds, treacherous terrain, and weather conditions. Authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such unfortunate incidents. The ongoing investigation into Thursday’s accident in Rajouri is expected to provide more clarity on the contributing factors and any potential lapses that may have led to the overturning of the tempo traveller.
