Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday conducted a thorough review of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following extensive rainfall, which triggered flash floods and landslides across several districts. He issued directives for the immediate acceleration of relief operations and the swift restoration of damaged infrastructure in the affected regions.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Lieutenant Governor engaged with senior officials to ascertain the full impact of the adverse weather conditions. He specifically instructed them to prioritize swift relief measures and ensure the rapid restoration of essential services to affected populations.
In a communication shared on the social media platform X, Lieutenant Governor Sinha expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of two lives in Doda district due to the extreme weather. “I spoke to senior officials today to assess the impact of heavy rains, flash floods and landslides. I am deeply saddened by the loss of two lives in Doda, and my heart goes out to their families,” he stated.
The Lieutenant Governor further informed that emergency response teams, comprising personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Indian Army, have been deployed and are maintaining a high state of alert in areas identified as vulnerable to further natural hazards. These coordinated efforts are aimed at mitigating risks and providing immediate assistance to those in need.
Significant progress has been made in restoring connectivity, with key roads in the districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Udhampur being reopened for traffic. Concurrently, extensive efforts are underway to reinstate water supply in several areas that were disrupted by the flash floods and landslides. The administration is working to ensure that essential utilities are brought back online as quickly as possible.
Furthermore, Lieutenant Governor Sinha directed field teams to conduct an immediate and comprehensive assessment of damage to residential properties and public infrastructure. This detailed evaluation is crucial for facilitating timely relief and rehabilitation measures for individuals and communities impacted by the natural calamity. The focus remains on providing support to affected residents and rebuilding damaged public assets.
