Pune, Maharashtra – The Pune district administration has imposed a ban on the entry of heavy and goods vehicles into the city limits, effective immediately and until further notice, as a precautionary measure against monsoon-related traffic disruptions. The decision, issued by Pune District Collector and District Magistrate Jitendra Dudi, aims to prevent traffic snarls that often occur due to stranded or broken-down trucks on the roads during heavy rainfall.
Information available with The Chenab Times indicates that the restrictions are designed to ensure smooth traffic flow throughout the rainy season. The administration has appealed to all transporters and truck operators to strictly adhere to the designated diversion routes to minimize inconvenience.
For vehicles traveling from Solapur towards Mumbai, diversion routes have been established. These include the Kedgaon–Chaufula–Nhavare–Talegaon Dhamdhere–Shikrapur–Chakan route, as well as the Uruli Kanchan–Koregaon Mul–Ashtapur–Talegaon Dhamdhere–Shikrapur–Chakan route. Similarly, vehicles moving from Mumbai towards Solapur are directed to utilize either the Talegaon Dabhade–Chakan–Shikrapur–Talegaon Dhamdhere–Nhavare–Kedgaon–Chaufula–Solapur highway route, or the Talegaon Dabhade–Chakan–Shikrapur–Talegaon Dhamdhere–Ashtapur–Koregaon Mul–Uruli Kanchan route. An additional option for this route is via Katraj–Mantarwadi Phata–Vadki–Dive ghat–Saswad–Jejuri–Morgaon–Supe–Kedgaon–Chaufula.
The order also specifies routes for heavy vehicles traveling between Mumbai and Ahilyanagar, directing them to use the Talegaon–Chakan–Khed–Manchar–Narayangaon–Alephata route. Trucks heading from Saswad towards Solapur have been instructed to follow the Saswad–Jejuri–Morgaon–Supe–Kedgaon–Chaufula route. Vehicles bound for Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur are to use the Bengaluru highway via the Navale bridge and Katraj.
To further mitigate congestion, goods vehicles entering Pune city for loading and unloading purposes will be permitted entry only between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Specific routes have been designated for these vehicles depending on their origin. For instance, vehicles arriving from Ahilyanagar will transit via Nagar Road–Wagholi–Kharadi bypass–Shastrinagar Chowk–Golf Club Chowk–Alandi Road Junction–Chandrama Chowk–Poultry Chowk–Harris Bridge. Trucks coming from Solapur are directed to use the Magarpatta–Bhaironala–Lullanagar Chowk–Gangadham Chowk–Market Yard route. Those entering Pune from Mumbai and Nashik will use the Harris bridge–Bopodi–Chandrama Chowk–Golf Club Chowk–Market Yard route.
The administration has emphasized that these restrictions are a preventive measure to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow during the monsoon season, a period when heavy vehicles are prone to breakdowns, leading to significant traffic congestion on Pune’s main roads. The order will remain in effect until further directives are issued.
