The historic Undavalli Caves in Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, became the venue for the commencement of the two-day ‘Telugu Mahotsavam’ on Saturday, July 25, 2026. The festival, organized by the Andhra Pradesh State Creativity and Culture Society, is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Telugu language and its rich cultural heritage for future generations.
The Andhra Pradesh State Creativity and Cultural Committee announced the organization of two significant events aimed at celebrating and revitalizing the Telugu language, literature, arts, and cultural heritage. The ‘Andhra Pradesh Telugu Mahotsavam’ was scheduled to take place on July 25 and 26 at the Undavalli Caves. A further announcement indicated that ‘Amaravati Chitrakala Veedhi,’ an open-air art festival, would be held on August 8 and 9. These events are part of a broader state government commitment to transforming Andhra Pradesh into the country’s cultural capital.
The Telugu Mahotsavam featured a diverse array of literary, cultural, and interactive programs. These included musical performances titled ‘Suryodaya Suprabhatam,’ ‘Aame Maata – Akshara Bata,’ poets’ meets, ‘Grandmother’s Story Sessions,’ youth discussions under the theme ‘Next Gen Telugu,’ and panel discussions named ‘Navaswaram.’ A unique initiative in collaboration with the Postal Department encouraged participants to write postcards entirely in Telugu.
The festival aims to foster a greater appreciation for the Telugu language among students and the youth. The Minister for Tourism and Culture, Kandula Durgesh, expressed concern over the declining use of Telugu amidst changing lifestyles and modern trends. He stated that the festival is intended to rekindle pride in the language and highlight its significance to a wider audience, describing it as a collective effort to preserve and promote the state’s linguistic and cultural heritage.
The valedictory ceremony of the Telugu Mahotsavam on July 26 was scheduled to be attended by distinguished guests, including former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, and Minister Kandula Durgesh. This cultural festival underscores the state’s dedication to its linguistic roots and artistic traditions, bringing together literary wealth, artistic traditions, folk heritage, and creative excellence onto a single platform.
