The Delhi government has approved a significant increase in the remuneration for its disaster management personnel, marking the first salary revision for these employees in 16 years. The decision, aimed at recognizing their crucial role in emergency preparedness and response, will benefit staff across various project-based positions within the Delhi State Disaster Management Authority.
Information was available with The Chenab Times indicating that the revised remuneration represents an increase of up to 100 percent for some positions. The previous salary structure, which had been in place since 2009, saw project officers and district project officers earning Rs 25,000 per month, while project coordinators received Rs 20,000. These roles were established with support from the United Nations Development Programme.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the revision delivers justice to the disaster management personnel, whose compensation had remained static for over a decade and a half. She highlighted that these posts were never integrated into a regular government pay scale, consequently preventing the staff from benefiting from periodic pay revisions or receiving Dearness Allowance. The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation for essential services, particularly those involved in safeguarding the city during crises.
