Kapurthala district authorities have conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing paddy milling operations for the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2025-26, focusing on the progress of milling and ensuring adequate availability of rice rakes for timely completion of the process. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Akash Bansal, brought together officials from the District Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and representatives from the Kapurthala District Rice Millers Association.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that as of August 4, approximately 76 percent of the milling work in the district had been successfully completed. During the review, millers conveyed to the Deputy Commissioner that an estimated 37 additional rice rakes would be necessary to finalize the remaining milling within the designated timeframe. Of this requirement, the Kapurthala procurement centre alone identified a need for around 19 rice rakes.
In response to the milling sector’s needs, officials from the Food Corporation of India informed the Deputy Commissioner about the current allocation of rice rakes for the district. They stated that 11 rice rakes had been allotted for August, with four of these designated for the Kapurthala centre. The FCI officials further assured that efforts were actively underway to arrange for the procurement of the remaining rakes required by the district to meet the milling targets.
The Deputy Commissioner, emphasizing the importance of timely agricultural processing, issued a clear directive to the concerned officials. He instructed them to undertake all requisite arrangements to ensure that the outstanding milling work is efficiently completed within the stipulated timeline. This directive underscores the administration’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring the smooth transition of paddy from farmers to market channels.
