Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged citizens across the nation to commemorate Independence Day with a profound sense of honour, pride, and glory, while also calling for a collective pledge towards building a developed India.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the Prime Minister articulated this sentiment through a message shared on Instagram. He accompanied his message with a video compilation that captured moments from a recent National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party meeting. In the footage, Members of Parliament and Union ministers are seen extending greetings to the Prime Minister, waving the national tricolour and raising patriotic slogans such as ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ as he arrived at the venue.
The Prime Minister, in his message, paid homage to the nation’s freedom fighters and emphasized the importance of pledging for a ‘developed India.’ He promoted the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, encouraging the hoisting of the national flag in every home and heart. The video further showcased the enthusiastic reception Modi received at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium within the Parliament House complex, where ministers and MPs greeted him with national flags and chants.
The Prime Minister reciprocated the gesture by holding and waving a national flag himself, acknowledging the members present. The meeting was attended by prominent figures including BJP president J P Nadda, Union ministers Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and S Jaishankar. Leaders from various NDA constituent parties, such as HD Kumaraswamy of JD-S, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu of TDP, Ramdas Bandu Athawale of RSP-A, along with Praful Patel of NCP, Upendra Kushwaha of RLM, and Satabdi Roy of NCPI, were also present.
During the NDA parliamentary party meeting, Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C R Paatil, delivered a presentation detailing various aspects of the Jal Shakti Ministry’s work. This ministry plays a crucial role in formulating policy guidelines and programmes for the development, conservation, and management of water resources, ensuring a national perspective in water planning and coordination.
The NDA parliamentary party meetings are typically held every Tuesday when Parliament is in session. The current Monsoon session of Parliament, which commenced on July 20, was scheduled to conclude on August 13. Following the NDA meeting, members of the ruling alliance staged a protest outside the main gate of Parliament, known as ‘Makar Dwar.’ This location became a point of convergence where NDA MPs encountered opposition INDIA bloc MPs, who were also staging a protest.
The NDA MPs voiced their concerns and raised slogans protesting what they termed as ‘brutal’ police action against job aspirants in Jharkhand. They also criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly avoiding a debate on student protests occurring across the country. Conversely, the opposition bloc raised issues pertaining to alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ayodhya Ram temple and sought accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding alleged police excesses during student protests on July 20 concerning paper leaks.
The Monsoon session has been marked by repeated adjournments, with limited legislative business transacted, primarily comprising a debate and passage of The Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026. Several other bills were also passed by both Houses with minimal or no debate, while three additional bills were passed by the Lok Sabha amidst persistent protests from the opposition. Initially, opposition parties focused their protests on the NEET paper leak issue and the alleged irregularities in the collection of donations for the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Subsequently, they pressed for a discussion on the police actions against students protesting the NEET paper leak and demanded the presence and statements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister in Parliament.
