The Meteorological Department often issues advisories regarding thunderstorms and lightning, particularly during the monsoon season or in regions prone to unpredictable weather patterns. Such advisories typically urge individuals to seek shelter indoors, avoid open fields, and stay away from tall trees or metallic structures during severe weather to mitigate the risk of lightning-related casualties.
South Kashmir, particularly the districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, and Shopian, experiences varied weather conditions throughout the year. While known for its picturesque landscapes, the region is also susceptible to natural phenomena that can pose risks to life and property. Lightning strikes, though often sudden, can have devastating consequences, especially in rural and agricultural areas where individuals may be working outdoors.
The incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of weather and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines during adverse meteorological conditions. Local authorities are reportedly providing support to the affected families as they come to terms with the tragic loss.
