Jammu, Aug 14: Security forces have significantly intensified their presence and surveillance across the Jammu region in anticipation of Independence Day celebrations. Vehicle checks, patrols in sensitive areas, and strategic deployments are in full effect as authorities aim to ensure a secure and peaceful culmination of patriotic events.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the heightened security measures are in response to a robust uptick in nationalistic activities, including ‘Tiranga Yatras’ and ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaigns, which have witnessed widespread public engagement. The tricolour is prominently displayed across the region, adorning homes and public buildings.
The main Independence Day ceremony in Jammu is scheduled to take place at the Maulana Azad Stadium. The event will feature the unfurling of the national flag by the Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, who will also take the salute. In contrast, the principal ceremony in Srinagar will be led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Bakshi Stadium.
Police and paramilitary personnel have been strategically positioned at key locations throughout Jammu. Access to celebration venues is being strictly controlled, with thorough frisking of individuals and thorough checks of vehicles underway. Security agencies have established an extensive surveillance network, closely monitoring all routes leading to the main event venue and other vulnerable points to prevent any untoward incidents.
Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been deployed to strategic positions within the city. Additionally, security along the critical Jammu-Srinagar and Jammu-Pathankot national highways has been substantially reinforced. Border security has also been augmented, with vital border roads and highways subjected to close surveillance via CCTV and other advanced monitoring systems.
A comprehensive, multi-tier security grid has been established along the Line of Control and the International Border. This grid comprises personnel from the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), and the local police force, working in coordination to maintain vigil.
In the lead-up to the celebrations, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Jammu zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, along with Deputy Inspectors General, has presided over multiple security review meetings across the Jammu region. These meetings focused on ensuring the adequate deployment of forces at sites designated for flag-hoisting ceremonies and securing the perimeters of all celebration venues.
