Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders in Ludhiana have strongly condemned an alleged attack on party president Sukhbir Singh Badal at a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra, and have called for a thorough investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Information was available with The Chenab Times that prominent SAD leaders, including Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Ranjit Singh Dhillon, and Ludhiana city president Bhupinder Singh Bhinda, addressed a press conference on Friday. During the conference, they voiced their deep concern over the incident involving their party chief and offered prayers for his safety and well-being.
The leaders emphasized that the incident was a significant cause for concern and stressed the imperative for a fair and comprehensive investigation to ascertain the full details. They articulated that the probe should not only focus on identifying the circumstances that led to the alleged attack but also on pinpointing all individuals responsible.
Further elaborating on their demands, the SAD leadership asserted that the scope of the investigation must extend beyond the individual directly involved in the alleged assault. They insisted that the roles of any other individuals or groups potentially orchestrating the incident should also be meticulously examined, with the findings being made public.
The Shiromani Akali Dal leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for their president and issued an appeal to the public to uphold peace and harmony. They cautioned against allowing political differences to escalate to a point where they could disrupt the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in Punjab and beyond. The party reiterated its long-standing commitment to advocating for the interests of Punjab and the Sikh community, pledging to continue raising issues pertinent to the state and its populace.
Expressing relief that Sukhbir Singh Badal emerged unharmed from the incident, the leaders conveyed their hope that the relevant authorities would ensure a transparent and impartial investigation. They urged party workers and the general public to maintain composure and refrain from making any statements or taking any actions that could potentially jeopardize communal harmony.
Several other party leaders and workers were present during the press conference, lending their support to the condemnation and the demand for a CBI inquiry. These included Pritpal Singh, Baba Ajit Singh, Kamal Chetly, Jagbir Singh Sokhi, RD Sharma, Amit Gosai, and Charanjit Singh Channi.
