Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport apprehended two passengers carrying an estimated Rs 69 lakh in unaccounted cash. The individuals were en route to Guwahati when the seizure was made.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that CISF officers, employing behavioural observation and subsequent CCTV analysis, identified a passenger for a more thorough screening. During this process, another passenger accompanying the first individual was also flagged.
The discovery of the substantial sum of cash was made during the detailed screening of their baggage. Officials stated that the money was found to be in denominations that raised suspicion regarding its origin and purpose.
Following the seizure, the two passengers were handed over to the Income Tax Department for further investigation. The Income Tax officials are expected to probe the source of the funds and the intended use of the unaccounted money. This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by security agencies at major transportation hubs to curb the flow of illicit funds and prevent their movement across the country.
Airport security protocols often involve a combination of visible surveillance, behavioural analysis, and advanced screening technologies to detect suspicious activities and items. The CISF, responsible for the security of the airport, regularly conducts such checks to maintain a secure environment and prevent criminal activities.
The Indira Gandhi International Airport, being a major gateway for both domestic and international travel, is a critical point for monitoring financial transactions and preventing the movement of undeclared currency. The vigilance displayed by the CISF personnel in this instance underscores their role in safeguarding the integrity of financial flows originating from or passing through the airport.
The investigation by the Income Tax Department will likely involve questioning the passengers about their travel plans, professions, and the origin of the cash. Depending on the findings, legal action could be initiated against the individuals involved if they are unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing such a large amount of undeclared money.
This event serves as a reminder of the strict regulations governing the transportation of large sums of cash and the consequences of non-compliance. Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of declaring all cash exceeding the permissible limits when travelling, to avoid such seizures and subsequent legal entanglements.
