NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with an extortion case involving a demand of ₹2 crore. The accused, identified as Amarjeet alias Amar, is allegedly linked to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi and Randeep Malik gangs.
The arrest was made in the Rani Bagh area of the capital following extensive technical surveillance and ground-based intelligence gathering. According to police officials, Amarjeet was apprehended on August 20 after attempting to evade law enforcement.
The case originated in April when the complainant approached the Maurya Enclave police station, reporting that they had received threatening calls and messages from an individual claiming to be Randeep Malik, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The extortion demand was reportedly to be paid in cryptocurrency.
During the investigation, Amarjeet allegedly admitted to his involvement in identifying potential extortion targets for the gangs. Further details emerged indicating that the accused had connections to both the Lawrence Bishnoi and Randeep Malik criminal networks, suggesting a coordinated effort in the alleged extortion attempt.
The Bishnoi and Malik gangs have been implicated in various criminal activities across India, including extortion, targeted killings, and drug trafficking. Recent reports indicate a continued crackdown on these organized crime syndicates by law enforcement agencies. In July, Delhi Police arrested three shooters associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang who were allegedly planning targeted killings and were receiving instructions from handlers abroad.
Similarly, Randeep Singh, also known as Randeep Malik, a key associate of Lawrence Bishnoi, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States in August 2025. Malik, originally from Jind, Haryana, is accused of masterminding several high-profile crimes in India from abroad, including the murder of a Delhi gym owner and orchestrating bomb blasts outside nightclubs in Chandigarh and Gurugram. The FBI has shared details of his arrest with Indian authorities, aiming to dismantle the gang’s operations.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has faced increasing scrutiny, with the US Department of Justice charging Bishnoi and his aide Goldy Brar for their alleged roles in organized criminal activities, including the assassination of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Canadian authorities have also designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization, citing its involvement in organized crime, targeted killings, extortion, and international criminal networks.
The current arrest of Amarjeet is part of ongoing efforts by the Delhi Police to curb the activities of organized criminal groups operating within the city and beyond. The police continue to investigate the extent of Amarjeet’s involvement and his connections within the broader network of the Bishnoi-Malik gangs.
