Kishtwar, August 27: A complete shutdown was observed across Kishtwar town and its surrounding areas on Thursday, following a joint call for a bandh by the Sanatan Dharma Sabha and Majlis-e-Shura. The protest was organised to demand swift justice in the case of a minor’s death and stern action against those allegedly involved.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that all shops, business establishments, and private institutions remained closed throughout Kishtwar town. Public transport services were also largely unavailable, according to local witnesses. The call for the bandh received support from various social and religious organisations in the region.
The primary demand articulated by the organising bodies was for expedited justice for the deceased minor girl and stringent legal action against the perpetrators of the alleged heinous crime. Representatives from both the Sanatan Dharma Sabha and Majlis-e-Shura appealed to the district administration for a fast-track investigation to ensure justice for the victim’s family.
In connection with the case, authorities have arrested three additional individuals, bringing the total number of arrests to five. This development was confirmed by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar to media outlets. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the crime and bring all responsible parties to account.
In anticipation of potential public gatherings and to ensure the maintenance of law and order, security arrangements were significantly enhanced across the district. Additional police personnel have been deployed to sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incidents and to maintain peace during the period of the bandh.
Further details regarding the ongoing investigation and any subsequent developments are expected to be released by official sources in the coming days.
