New Delhi: In response to the severe flash floods in Nepal, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has established a round-the-clock control room in Delhi to provide assistance. The move comes as the death toll from the devastating floods has risen significantly, with a substantial number of Indian nationals reported missing.
Information was available with The Chenab Times that the MEA control room, operational 24/7, has been set up to coordinate relief efforts and assist affected individuals. The ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, announced at a media briefing that the helpline and control room telephone numbers would be disseminated via the MEA’s X handle. Additionally, India’s embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing are also operating 24/7 helplines to manage the crisis.

For WhatsApp communications, the designated number is +91 9968291988, and the email address for situation-related queries is situationroom@mea.gov.in. The Indian embassy in Kathmandu has also provided emergency contact numbers, including WhatsApp, which are +977 985 131 6807, +977 970 910 7500, and +977 981 032 6117.
The flash floods, which originated in Tibet, swept through central Nepal on Wednesday, causing widespread devastation. Numerous towns and villages were inundated, critical bridges were washed away, and at least a dozen hydropower projects were crippled, impacting multiple districts across the nation. The immediate aftermath of the disaster saw a desperate race against time for rescuers to locate hundreds of people still unaccounted for, including 288 Indian citizens.
India has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepal during this critical time, stating it stands “shoulder-to-shoulder” with the Himalayan nation. Rescue operations in Nepal have gained momentum as international and national agencies collaborate to address the emergency.
