Jammu and Kashmir: IGP Kashmir Reviews Security Ahead of International Film Festival

Srinagar, September 4: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar, convened a high-level security review meeting today to meticulously plan and strengthen arrangements for the upcoming International Film Festival in the Kashmir Valley. The primary objective of the meeting was to ensure a robust security grid and comprehensive preparedness to facilitate the smooth and secure conduct of the event.

Information was available with The Chenab Times that the meeting was attended by a wide array of senior officials from various security and civil agencies. Participants included the Additional Commissioner, Special Branch Srinagar; Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) from SSB Srinagar, ITBP Srinagar, CID Kashmir, CKR Srinagar, Traffic Kashmir, Armed/IR Kashmir; DIGs from CRPF South/North Srinagar, and BSF Frontier Headquarters. Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) from PCR Kashmir, Traffic City Srinagar, District Srinagar, Railways Kashmir, Traffic Rural Kashmir, Security Kashmir, CID SB (K), CID (CIK), APCR Srinagar, along with the SO to IGP Kashmir, Commandant SDRF 1st Battalion Srinagar, Assistant Director SIB Srinagar, Colonel GS (IS) 15 Corps SP Cargo, Joint Director Information, Joint Director Tourism, and Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services, were also present.

During the meeting, IGP Kashmir meticulously reviewed the existing security preparedness, proposed deployment plans, and the specific arrangements being implemented for the International Film Festival. Discussions encompassed critical aspects such as venue security, personnel deployment strategies, access control protocols, surveillance measures, effective crowd management, traffic regulation, established emergency response mechanisms, and crucial inter-agency coordination to foster a unified and effective security posture.

IGP Sujit Kumar emphasized the imperative for adequate and strategically positioned deployments across all designated festival venues. He underscored the need to account for the anticipated movement and gathering of a diverse audience, including visitors, participants, dignitaries, and other stakeholders, ensuring their safety and security at all times. Furthermore, the IGP directed officers to ensure thorough route clearance operations and to establish appropriate Road Opening Parties (ROPs) along all planned routes. This measure is intended to guarantee secure and uninterrupted transit for attendees throughout the duration of the festival.

The IGP also issued directives for the implementation of effective crowd management strategies, emphasizing the need to maintain regulated entry and exit points at venues. The focus is on ensuring the smooth movement of people in and around the festival locations. In parallel, IGP Sujit Kumar highlighted the importance of formulating and executing comprehensive traffic management plans to facilitate seamless vehicular movement. This includes deploying adequate personnel at vulnerable and congested points to minimize public inconvenience.

A significant point of emphasis during the deliberations was the necessity for close coordination and real-time information sharing among all participating agencies. This collaborative approach is deemed essential for maintaining a highly robust and responsive security grid throughout the entire event. The IGP instructed officers to maintain a state of heightened alertness, intensify surveillance operations, and undertake all requisite preventive and security measures well in advance of the festival commencement.

The meeting concluded with a thorough assessment of the preparedness measures already in place. Further directions were issued to all concerned agencies for the continuous strengthening of security arrangements, ensuring a safe and secure environment for the successful culmination of the International Film Festival.
